Meet Kim Pereira: the Artist Behind #BoardsforaCause

In August 2023, Shelley Residential unveiled an innovative community initiative that transcends the boundaries of traditional real estate marketing. Known as #BoardsForACause, this campaign aims to merge the worlds of art, homes, and community support to champion meaningful causes in the community. Their inaugural partnership is with the Kloof and Highway SPCA, creating a powerful synergy of real estate, art, and compassion, all in the name of aiding animals in need.

A Campaign with Purpose
The core mission of the #BoardsForACause campaign is crystal clear: to raise both awareness and essential funds for the Kloof and Highway SPCA. While real estate typically focuses on properties, this campaign goes beyond bricks and mortar. It embraces the community spirit, rallying residents to protect and care for animals that require help. Shelley Residential's new for sale and sold boards, strategically placed throughout the Westville, Pinetown, Kloof and Hillcrest neighbourhoods, serve as the canvas for this endeavour. Each board features stunning animal artwork, prominently displaying the SPCA's logo, and a conveniently scannable QR code, inviting community members to contribute.

Kim Pereira: Artist with a Heart of Gold
At the heart of this initiative is Durban-based artist Kim Pereira, who was chosen by Shelley Residential to create the visually striking boards that breathe life into the #BoardsForACause campaign. With unwavering dedication, she handcrafted five unique animal art pieces, celebrating two dogs, two cats, and a magnificent peacock. These remarkable artworks not only celebrate beloved pets but also serve as a vivid reminder of the SPCA's pivotal role in supporting community animals and their families.

The Artistic Journey of Kim Pereira
Kim Pereira's journey as an artist is as inspiring as the art she creates. Born on the South Coast of KwaZulu Natal in Port Shepstone, Kim's deep connection to her surroundings has always been evident. Initially pursuing a career in architectural drafting and running her own business, it wasn't until 2010 that she uncovered her true passion for art.

Her artistic journey began with art classes, evolving into a unique fusion of drawing and painting in oils, acrylics, and charcoal. Kim's preferred style is modern contemporary, characterized by vibrant colours and striking compositions. While she skillfully crafts seascapes and landscapes, her true passion lies in portraiture, where she masterfully captures the essence of her subjects.

Kim's artistic development has been nurtured by her mentors, Deanne Donaldson and Pascale Chandler, as well as contemporary artists she follows on social media. She continually pushes her creative boundaries, experimenting with single-line art and fluid-line work to create new, captivating pieces.

A Beacon of Artistic Excellence
Her dedication and talent have earned her recognition, including a coveted Top 40 spot in the prestigious Sanlam Portrait Awards.

She actively showcases her art in galleries across KwaZulu Natal, including The Gallery Lifestyle in Ballito and Tamasa Gallery in Morningside. Her recent exhibition at Art in the Country in Hilton in May 2023 attests to her commitment to the local art community. Currently, Kim is immersed in creating a Fynbos series set to debut in a gallery opening in Dullstroom in September this year.

Art as a Catalyst for Community Transformation
Beyond her personal achievements, Kim believes deeply in the transformative power of art within the community. She sees art as a fresh perspective on the world, inspiring young talents to express themselves through creativity. For Kim, mixing colours and crafting art is therapeutic, a sentiment shared by many in the artistic community.

Kim's participation in Shelley Residential's #BoardsForACause campaign exemplifies her dedication to making a positive impact in the community. Her five unique animal art pieces are not just visually captivating; they symbolize the support and hope offered by the Kloof and Highway SPCA to animals and their families in need.

Joining Hands for a Worthy Cause
The #BoardsForACause campaign is a special and vital community initiative that holds a special place in Kim's heart. With her profound love for dogs aligning with the SPCA's noble cause, Kim's contribution to this initiative fills her with pride, knowing that her art is making a tangible difference. Reflecting on her involvement in this project, Kim Pereira aptly notes, "It's incredibly heartwarming to witness the overwhelming support from our community. Together, we're making a tangible difference, one artwork and one donation at a time."

Kim urges the entire community to unite in this worthy cause. Whether by volunteering time or making a donation to the Kloof and Highway SPCA, she believes that even the smallest contribution can go a long way in safeguarding and caring for animals in need.

A Beacon of Creativity and Compassion
Kim Pereira is more than an artist; she is a beacon of creativity, compassion, and community spirit. Her unwavering dedication to her craft and her involvement in initiatives like #BoardsForACause reminds us that art has the power to transform lives and make the world a better place, one brushstroke at a time.
